Holt & Hetzel – Educational Consulting Group

Brian Hetzel, M.Ed.

Professional Journey:

Born and raised in Springfield, MA, Brian first entered the independent school world as a student at Suffield Academy. Upon graduating in 1997, he ventured north into the Adirondacks to attend St. Lawrence University, where he received his BA in Psychology and captained the track and field teams. Remaining at St. Lawrence, Brian attained his M.Ed. in counseling and human development. During the summer breaks, Brian worked in various faculty and administration roles at the Loomis Chaffee School summer program. After graduation, Brian returned to his high school alma mater to work in the admission office, coach extensively and serve as a dorm parent. Wanting to focus more on working with students who have learning differences, Brian moved on to the admission office at the Eagle Hill School in Hardwick, MA. Most recently, Brian has served as the Associate Director of Admission at Cheshire Academy in Connecticut.

Personal Pursuits:

In his spare time, Brian continues his running pursuits, completing various long distance races. A close friendship with a local charity, the Petit Family Foundation, has given rise to a running team, which Brian started and directs. Started in 2008, the team has raised thousands of dollars, all of which benefits the foundation and their mission. With a growing membership, Brian continues to focus on putting the miles in with his teammates, looking to raise awareness for a great cause. Brian’s most recent adventure spanned 120 miles across the Colorado Rockies over a 6-day period.

You may be surprised to know…

Brian speaks Kiswahili, a language he learned while studying abroad in Kenya during college. While his fluency has dropped, his love for the language and country remain.

He is an enthusiastic soccer fan, especially when it comes to The Arsenal Football Club. Any mention of other English teams will lead to lengthy and passionate discussions as to why only one club is worth following.
